Have you been experiencing eye redness, swelling, and light sensitivity? Is your vision slightly blurred and distorted? If so, you may be experiencing the early onset of keratoconus. This is a progressive eye condition that occurs when your cornea thins out, weakens, and bulges like a cone. As you know, the cornea acts as the outermost lens of your eye. The change in corneal shape causes the light rays entering your eye to become out of focus. This makes everyday tasks, such as reading and driving, difficult.

Orthokeratology, also known as ortho-k, is a revolutionary new method of treating progressive refractive eye conditions and preventing them from getting gradually more severe. This treatment is based upon the use of special gas-permeable contact lenses that work by reshaping the cornea, which is the front surface covering the front of the eye. This changes the way that light is refracted by the cornea, ensuring it is focused more accurately onto the retina rather than in front of behind it. This enables our brains to interpret a clear, concise image rather than one which is blurred and out of focus

Dry eyes are a condition that is characterized by symptoms such as dry, uncomfortable eyes that can become so serious that they affect the patient’s quality of life. Our eyes are usually coated in a thin layer of tear film – a substance that is a combination of oils, mucus, antibodies, proteins, and water. This tear film protects our eyes from harmful microorganisms and keeps them comfortable. When tear film production is compromised in any way, it can lead to dry eyes.
